When video games first became a legitimate form of entertainment there was no real way to win. Much like pinball machines the best a player could hope for was the highest score, because eventually the games just got so fast and so furious that players couldn’t keep up. The Scary Maze Game harkens back to that era of video games; when things were simpler, and players were just trying to meet a basic objective despite what the game was doing to mess them up.
How Does it Work?
The Scary Maze Game boasts the simplest possible controls that players could ask for. There’s a maze and a small dot. Players have to guide the dot through the maze without touching the sides using movements of their mouses. When they make it to the end of the first maze the screen immediately shifts to a new maze. Each maze gets progressively smaller and smaller until it’s nearly impossible to guide the dot. If players hit the sides then it’s game over. That means they either bounce back a level, or have to start from scratch.
Where’s the Scary Part?
There’s a reason the Scary Maze Game tells you to turn the volume up for a reason. The closer players get to the end of the game, the
more the maze plays tricks on them. For instance, sudden, sharp noises like bloodcurlding screams or evil laughs might shoot out of the speakers at top volume. Horrible monsters might flash across the screen, or any number of other, pre-programmed triggers might show up to mess with the player. The entire goal is to make him or her jerk so that they hit the wall and have to go back to the beginning. It’s essentially the video game equivalent of an old funhouse meant to give people long stretches of nothing with sharp moments of quality scares.
How Do You Beat It?
Unlike the games of yesteryear, there is a limit on how many levels there are in most versions of the Scary Maze Game. However, for players to get to the end without jerking it requires relaxation, deep breathing, steady hands… and turning off the volume. It might be considered cheating to some people, but if you turn off the sound then players take away half of the possible methods the game has of making them jump. Of course the main reason that so many people play the game in the first place is
because it makes them jump, so turning off the sound might, in a way, be defeating the purpose of playing the game at all. But it all depends on what players want out of the experience.
Why Pay to Play?
There are dozens, if not hundreds, of different versions of the Scary Maze Game all over the Internet. However, some websites will charge players just to let them go through this extremely simple game. Some sites require a membership, asking players to shell out all of their sensitive, personal information. Here, we don’t do any of that. We just want players to come in, choose a game and have a good time. So if you want to play the Scary Maze Game, go right ahead! Tell your family and your friends, and bring them along for your next game!
